     Black rice is an annual herbaceous plant of the rice genus in the Gramineae family. Black rice is black or dark brown in color, with long oval shaped grains and a grayish brown husk. Its roots, stems, leaves, shell, skin, embryo, and endosperm are all colored or purple. Open rice husks once a year in autumn. Black rice, also known as black japonica rice, is named after the thick deposition of pigments in the fruit peel layer, resulting in black and purple colors
