      Valerian is an herb that has been used since ancient times to treat insomnia, anxiety and nervousness, as well as related stomach ailments. The root is typically used for medicinal purposes, often made into dried powder to make teas and extracts, tinctures and fluid extracts.

      Insomnia
      Valerian is a safe and gentle alternative to prescription sleep medications, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC). Studies have found that valerian is effective at helping people fall asleep faster and experience higher-quality sleep, while inducing fewer side effects than other drugs.
